We love the weekends, but then again, who doesn't? We love waking up slowly, making homemade pancakes and lingering together at the table over a warm cup of coffee. And on this particular weekend we made our way to the vineyards in Muttenz. There is something absolutely magical about the fall and vineyards in the fall is true bliss. The eye candy of the changing leaves, the crispness in the air, the pumpkins in harvest and the vineyards. Oh, let us tell you about the vineyards. The colors, the grapes, the smells...all too good not to enjoy. And this year, we get to enjoy them with the little man who now loves to hike along beside us, precious, mitten covered hand wrapped in ours. This is truly a season to be savored!
This Father’s Day was special. Not only did it start with a warm, succulent cup of my man’s favorite Trader Joe’s brew, and homemade pancakes, but the morning marked the eager anticipation of what was yet to come. This year the Tour de Suisse would complete their final leg of the race in Liestal, a sweet village just 9 minutes from our home. So, for the love of the sport and men in tights, we knew we had to attend despite the wet, saucy weather.
The highlight of the day, however, was having the keen ability to watch none other than Lance Armstrong warm up for his time trial. And as we made my way through the crowd to watch this legend spin his wheels, our minds flashed to the poster that once hung on our office wall.It was a picture of Lance biking in the Tour de France with the words, “Impossibility Defeated” at the bottom of the picture. Those two words are rather powerful, especially if you know Lance’s story.
And as we continued to watch the steam rise from his back, we never imagined that we would have the opportunity to stand so close to greatness. When we used to look at the poster – Lance was simply an icon with a remarkable story to tell, but being that close to him was truly a moment to behold. And each magical moment in our lives, whether it is a momentous Father’s Day such as this, or a hike in the mountains, we still grin from ear to ear with excitement. And the ultimate gift gathered from the day was the idea that impossibility can be defeated, however, big or small.
