We had to travel to Davos, Switzerland for a full work weekend (I know what most of you are thinking…oh, they had to travel to Davos…sounds rough.) Friday was full of work (we do actually work here, despite what our blog looks like, but who wants to see pictures of us sleepy eyed at 6:00am running for a train to take us about 40 minutes away, plus, there isn’t anything too exciting about pictures of cube farms – right?) for Robert and Saturday was full of work for both of us. The days were long, but we were in beautiful Davos, so it is pretty hard to complain.
Sunday was a “free” day, so we woke up early, strapped on the snowshoes and headed into the woods. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Davos, it is a mecca for skiers, snowboarders and cross-country skiers. In fact, the weekend we were there (we really do luck out with the events we just happen to stumble across), Davos hosted the world cross-country championships…pretty intense. What they didn’t host was the American snowshoeing event and we quickly learned that snowshoeing hasn’t quite “taken off” in these parts as of yet (we are working on that though.) Nonetheless, we love the little activity and blazed our own trail (with recommendations from the locals not to step on the cross country tracks…they are very serious about their cross country skiing…so warning to our next visitors!) With about two feet of soft, powder below us and a slight chill in the air, we made our way into the woods. There is something incredibly peaceful about the snow…maybe because it is so pristine, so untouched that the moments you spend deep in the snowy woods reminds you (amidst all that is happening in the world) that there is hope for peace and solitude. When you are out there with snow below your feet and the only noise you hear is the snowflakes gently perching themselves amongst the trees, all seems right with the world and in your life. Now back to reality…as we were trekking though the snow I said to Robert, “doesn’t it seem that our lives in Switzerland have been spent on a train and we have taken each stop it makes - the first stop in the town of tulip blossoming spring, the second stop took us to the village of warm days, with the gently sloping green hills of summer, we rolled into all of the beauty of changing leaves and crisp air of autumn and now we find ourselves stopped for a short while in the town of winter.” It’s a bit poetic or Robert Frostish (not that I am by any means comparing myself to Robert Frost, but I do feel as though we have taken the Road Less Traveled and it has indeed made all of the difference), but it is true, our time here is moving quickly (8 months already…how did that happen?), like stops on a train, the next town, the next experience keeps coming and we are still smitten with happiness for the taking!

WOW, a serious winter wonderland! How absolutely picture perfect - you two look totally at home there. I love the first picture - I might have to try and water color that!
