Bike and Hike - 5/13/07

We rode west out of Basel towards Liestal. We stopped to take a picture near an area where people rent plots for small farming.
We locked our bikes to a tree and started to hike up a wooded hilly area, the trail leveled off, and opened up to a big field. We choose the wrong path and came across what looked like a small rail-car, but was actually a very large bee hive... we turned around and chose another path... Which led us past some cows... (who have rights too, here in Switzerland)
Past the cows, we were on a road that reminded me of a view, perhaps, that might be seen on the mesa in Santa Barbara... We have decided that Switzerland is a beautiful fusion of California and Pennsylvania - green and lush, with seasons much like Pennsylvania, but warm days and cools nights like California.
We ducked back into the woods, and saw an overlook with a sign and a sketch from someone several hundred years before... Kind of looks the same, with the exception of more industry...
When we got to the top of the next mountain, a very steep hike, we took this picture, it helps having a small tri-pod...
Then we hiked back to the bikes, and road home. Then we went to watch a few more games at the volleyball tournament.
