Mallorca, Spain

Celebrating Seven Years in Spain

Another year has rolled by and we are on the eve of celebrating our seventh year anniversary. It seems like yesterday we were saying our vows on the hottest day of the year in Delaware and now we live a world away. We still recall what a wonderful celebration we had that August 4, 2002 and what a true gift it was to enjoy the day with family and friends. I can still see a room full of familiar faces dancing and having a wonderful time.

Each year we try and go away for our anniversary, and take time to reflect on our life together. Relishing our life in the past, the present and looking forward to a bright future. This year we felt blessed to be able to share our anniversary with Noah. It seems a bit richer to see a face full of wonder and joy look back at you as you think about your life together.

So on the eve of bombings by a local terrorist organization (this always makes you feel great about an upcoming journey), we flew off to Mallorca, Spain. I particularly like the Spanish culture; they seem to be open, warm and very welcoming. We have wanted to go to Mallorca for quite sometime now, so we figured why not celebrate our anniversary somewhere new and exciting?

Mallorca is a great island, though very arid and dry. It seems like the rain never falls there, though the olive, orange, lime and lemon trees offer a nice array of green to the otherwise brown landscape. We spent our days relaxing by the pool, watching our little man enjoy the water (we do hope he enjoys swimming as much as I do…go Aqua bears!), meandering though small towns and taking a day to enjoy the ocean.

Noah celebrated a lot of firsts on the island – his first swim in a pool, his first time in the ocean, and a fresh Spanish stamp in his passport. And for us, it was our first time celebrating an anniversary with Noah. Our seventh anniversary was a rich celebration for all. As we march into another year of married life, we are grateful for the abundance of health, happiness and love we share.
